  • Specification and Design Considerations for Thermoplastics in Commercial Water Applications

Contains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 05/14/2019

Original air date: May 2019 - Specification and Design Considerations for Thermoplastics in Commercial Water Applications

This one-hour webinar provides an overview of the various factors to be considered when replacing metals with thermoplastics in commercial water applications. The presentation will review, beyond pressure and temperature ratings, what other mechanical and environmental factors can affect the long-term performance of a water system. The various thermoplastics available for commercial water piping will be compared and their strengths and weaknesses identified and related to their molecular structure and morphology.

    Content Outline:

Overview of the causes of plastic material failure
Structure and morphology of piping thermoplastics
    Mechanical and thermal considerations
    Chemical considerations: degradation, ESC, permeability

Upon successful completion of the course learners will:

Be familiar with the various thermoplastics available for commercial water piping systems
Understand the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of thermoplastics
Be familiar with considerations in material specification and design when metal is replaced with plastic
Be familiar with designing around the strengths and weaknesses of the different types of plastics

This webinar is free to ASPE Members and is sponsored by Corzan Piping Systems.

  • Storm Drain Research and Its Impact on Design

    Contains 3 Component(s), Includes Credits

Plumbing engineers have traditionally designed storm drainage systems based on the rainfall rate and capacity of the storm drainage piping. The performance of the storm drain has never been considered. Design methods currently outlined in the Plumbing Codes and ASPE documents do not address the flow rate through the roof drain. The ASPE Research Foundation conducted a series of tests of roof drain to evaluate their capacity to drain the rainfall based on the ponding around the roof drain. The results of the study will impact the design of a storm drainage system and secondary storm drainage system. The results of the study will be presented followed by the impact to the design of the storm drainage system. This program will review new methods of design that plumbing engineers must consider when designing a storm drainage system.

  • The ABCs of Graywater Recovery and Reuse

Contains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Recorded On: 10/22/2013

As the developed world slowly realizes the benefits of water conservation and reuse, the role of decentralized (source) wastewater treatment and reuse is gathering momentum. One of the key outcomes of this mindset is graywater reuse: the water leaving laboratory sinks, showers, baths and washing machines.
