    Joe Scott is a Senior Vice President and Senior Plumbing Designer for Cannon Design in their St. Louis office. Joe has been involved in the design and specification of plumbing systems for the past 37 years, with an emphasis on healthcare, criminal justice, and laboratory building types. He has served on numerous ASPE committees and was the Task Force Chairman for the design portion of the Domestic Water Heating Design Manual. Joe is also an ASPE Past President.

    Hydraulic Calculations for Fire Protection: What They Are and Their Importance - TS532

    Hydraulic calculations measure the water flow and pressure in a system. The calculations allow engineers to size piping to ensure that the required flow and pressure are met to operate the system. In this lecture we will go over the basics of the process, including equations and tables, to all of the applications the calculations can be used on and how to ensure they are correct.


    Vincent Favale is an Engineer for WSP and has more than six years with the firm. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and later earned his MS in Fire Protection Engineering from WPI. Vincent's experience is in a wide range of high-profile jobs, including work for the Wells Fargo Center in Pennsylvania, Mohegan Sun Earth Hotel and Casino in Connecticut, and fit out work for Eataly and Apple at the World Trade Center in New York City.

    Ms. Minyard holds a Professional Engineering license and the Certified in Plumbing Design credential with more than 10 years in the plumbing industry and 7 years in the educational arena. Her expertise and strengths range in the areas of project engineering, constructability review, and documentation through modeling and drafting. She currently works as the Virtual Design & Construction Engineer for B.L. Harbert International, LLC in Birmingham, Alabama.  She is also the Vice President, Education on the Society Board of Directors. She currently serves on the Education Committee, AYP (ASPE Young Professionals) Committee, and on other various ASPE committees.
