Part 1:
This course discusses the dangers of the typical home of aging people or those with mobility or other challenges. It discusses solutions to safety and accessibility issues, based on both the 7 Principles of Universal Design, as well as ADA standards. It also demonstrates to architects the benefits of creating a home that is safe and accessible for people of all generations. And it shows how professionals who are savvy in this topic can engage in a prosperous older economy.
Discuss the value and necessity of creating a living space that allows homeowners to comfortably and gracefully age-in-place
· Define the key principles for Universal Design in kitchens and baths
· Explain situations where products need to be ADA-compliant versus simply meeting ADA standards
· Define kitchen and bath products that meet the practical and aesthetic needs of homeowners for gracefully aging-in-place
Part 2:
1 Hour presentation on Universal Design
This presentation will define Universal Design and explore specific products available in the market to suit a variety of needs and add value to the home.

Jones Goodridge
Jackie Harmacy is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the plumbing industry. Continuing her journey at Jones Goodridge as Outside Sales in 2008, she quickly rose through the ranks to become Principal in 2020. Jackie's expertise lies in catering to luxury builders, designers, and wholesale showrooms, where she excels in showcasing and promoting new products.
Graduating from Red River College with a Professional Sales (CPSA) certificate, Jackie's commitment to excellence led her to become the first Manitoban to be CAPS certified in Florida in 2014. Recognizing the importance of diversity, she spearheaded the Women’s Network at CIPH Manitoba in 2017 and made history as the first female President of CIPH Manitoba in 2022. Jackie has recently accepted a nominated position as CIPH Liaison Director for Manitoba on the National Board, effective May 2024.
Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Jackie completed the CIPH Leadership Academy in 2023 and is a certified CEU instructor. Despite having breast cancer in 2020, she returned to work 5 weeks after a mastectomy and continues to strive to improve the plumbing industry for women.
Outside of work, she finds joy in volunteering at Harvest Manitoba and indulging in her passions for yoga, world travel, and hiking, with a notable accomplishment of annually completing the 63km Mantario Trail since 2021. Jackie's dedication to her craft, coupled with her commitment to community and empowerment, defines her as a leader in the plumbing industry.
