The Viega Experience Center in New York City will host ASPE's MedGas Workshop on March 23–26, 2026. Taught by MedGas expert Mark Allen, our workshop will provide the 32 hours of training needed to take the ASSE 6060: Medical Gas Systems Designer exam.
The Med Gas workshop includes:
- Certificate of completion that proves the recipient fulfilled the required training to take the ASSE 6060 exam
- Team-based, hands-on activities, and calculations with actual design exercises
- ASSE 6060 practice exam
- Copy of NFPA 99-2024: Health Care Facilities Code
- Quizzes to test knowledge retention
- Design tables and exercises document
- Justification letter for your employer
- Calculator and supplies for hands-on exercises
- Lunch, drinks, and snacks are provided each day
What to Bring: A laptop/iPad loaded with Bluebeam or other software for marking up pdf design exercises.
What To Expect:
- Classroom Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. each day (Monday – Thursday) Please plan flights accordingly. Students must be present for the entire class.
- Attire will be business casual (No Shorts or T-shirts)
- Evenings are on your own
- Full days with lots of learning

Mr. Allen has been involved in medical gas industry since 1978. He started out of university with one of the earliest certification firms when “certification” of medical gas systems was a concept yet to be widely accepted. He transitioned to industry in 1985, and since then has been involved in virtually all aspects of medical gas work, including testing and verification, regulatory, advocacy, product development, marketing and education.
He is an active member of the National Fire Protection Association Technical Committee on Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems and the Canadian Standards Association Technical Committee on Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems and acts as secretary of the ISO TC121 / SC6 /WG4 committee dealing with the ISO medical gases standard and is Chair of the Medigham Oxygen Concentrators Industry Association. He has been honored by the MGPHO Verifier’s organization as a special expert.
He is the author of numerous journal articles, design guides and other technical aids for the engineering of medical gases.
Mr. Allen is now retired from his formal roles in industry, but remains involved in many activities related to better medical gas systems, including Instruction for ASSE credentials, particularly the 6060 (Designer) course.
