This intermediate-level session builds on the fundamentals introduced in Introduction to Project Management for Engineers, shifting focus to the business side of project delivery. Attendees will explore how to respond to RFPs, develop competitive fees, budget project hours, and manage scope and services through construction administration. The presentation emphasizes the “business” of managing projects.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
· Identify the core responsibilities of a project manager.
· Interpret RFPs and develop proposals.
· Build and justify project fees using common strategies.
· Allocate and manage project hours effectively post-award.
· Navigate scope control and construction administration.

Greg Swafford, CPD, GPD (Moderator)
Technical Sales Manager
Greg Swafford brings over 25 years of experience in plumbing design, project management, and business development. As Principal of Smith Seckman Reid’s Kansas City office, Greg leads multidisciplinary teams and serves as Principal-in-Charge within SSR’s national sports practice, overseeing the design of professional and collegiate stadiums, arenas, and ballparks.
Throughout his career, Greg has worked on a wide range of projects, combining technical expertise with practical leadership to support successful project delivery. His background includes both design and client-facing roles, giving him a well-rounded perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the built environment.
In addition to his role at SSR, Greg serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) as the Society Treasurer, contributing to the advancement of the plumbing engineering profession through leadership and service.
