Gary is a graduate of Cornell University and has been involved in energy efficiency and renewable energy since 1974. For 19 years he worked for the California Energy Commission where he focused on improvements in the efficiency of space conditioning. In 1995 he looked at himself in the mirror and said “once we reduce the energy needed for space conditioning, (and we are well on the way), water heating will become the largest residential energy use.” With nobody working on that, Gary took up the cause and has focused on the best ways to “improve hot water systems, as systems.”

Gary has published more than 40 articles and reports related to improvements in energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources of energy. In 2014 IAPMO presented Gary their Green Professional of the Year award. In 2015 the Department of Energy awarded Gary the Jeffrey A. Johnson Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Building Energy Codes.

This chapter meeting is being held on June 10 at 12 pm CDT.
