2018 Conference Session - Commercial PEX Design and Installation Best Practices

While the use of crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) piping has been widespread in residential applications for more than two decades, engineers, building owners, and contractors are now using it more and more as a cost-effective and flexible alternative to copper on large-scale commercial projects. PEX is a proven system solution that can reduce both material and labor costs while providing the reliability and peace of mind that building owners demand. When considering PEX, however, it is important that engineers and contractors understand not only the benefits, but also the challenges and potential consequences that may occur when systems are not properly designed or installed. This session will provide valuable information about what engineers and contractors need to know when it comes to specifying, designing, inspecting, and installing commercial PEX systems to ensure proper performance and system integrity. Topics will include the different types of PEX and joining methods, proper sizing, hangers and supports, dealing with expansion and contraction, and health and safety.
